Carmack On 'Infinite Detail,' Integrated GPUs, and Future Gaming Tech

writes "John Carmack sat for an interview at QuakeCon 2011 to talk about the future of technology for games. He shared his thoughts on the career of the GPU hardware (hardware is not important but the drivers are very important), integrated graphics solutions and Llano Sandy Bridge (with a future of shared address space that can overcome the discrete GPU) and, of course, some thoughts on the engines "infinite detail" (content inspiring to look at the molecular level is still the content of inspiration). Carmack refers to a "new was interested in ray tracing, and how it will" save time "the battle for representation in the long run.
