Best of 2011: Industry Picks screenshot

You already know what you think about programming this year, and you know that our game of the year pick up soon. But what about game developers? You know, people that really matter in this industry.

many games developers do not have time to respond to an e-press, not to mention playing only five games in a given year. However, meeting some of our friends and favorite developers and asked them to leave in the spring of his five favorite games and things related to video games of 2011.

These are the five reasons why we have to wait an extra couple of months for your next project.

Johann Sebastian

Joust

between

Bastion
party launch, Gaijin Games barbecue, "and Tiff Chow Fourth of July show, I think Joust

officially supported more games than any other game I played. It's really the best use of motion controller I've seen and is one of the best multiplayer games of all time. If it is part of Venus Kickstater patrol Brandon Boyer, you are definitely missing.

Uncharted 3

am a single player in the history of man, and the people of Naughty Dog, nailed outside the park, in this case. The sinking ship, especially stands out as something that blew my mind. I'd love to see who came up with this idea to tell a developer that will have to get there.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

I liked to point and click adventure in your day and I am very excited to see you make some return. This, in particular, took everything I loved about the old games and wrapped in a shell ultra-modern and elegant. I bought an iPhone specifically for this game, and it was really worth it.

Portal 2

I am a big fan of the original portal . I played at least five times. In a way, the valve was capable of not only gives me everything I wanted in a sequel, but also to avoid potential problems that could see. They were able to add new mechanics that he felt as fresh as the original portal gun, changed the style of art in an interesting and unique, and even more fun and evocative writing.

5. Work

know, probably not kosher to include your own stuff in a list like that, but I'm very proud of what we have done here this year at Double Fine. With

stacking

Iron Brigade [ditches] , and

Sesame Street: Once Upon a monster

, we launched several games in one year than ever before, and each is completely different than the last. It was a pleasure to come to work every day with a group of incredibly talented and wonderful, and I can not wait until people see what we have coming next!

1. IndieCade

IndieCade case this year in Culver City was the first time I attended and was a big deal for me. The talks were uniformly informative and inspiring, and things picked up over the weekend that has shaped the way I spent the last half of the year and made me a better person. It sounds like hyperbole, I do not know how much was due to IndieCade specifically, but the conversations that I had to have had a long and lasting influence in what I do every day.

2. Venus Patrol

incredibly successful kick Offworld Brandon Boyer to revive under a new flag in the news for the amount of money it raised, but also got me out of my ass and get the first game new I Made ... time (

CAPSULE

). I am very happy to Venus Patrol's it.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

Superbrothers and feel of the adventure game showed iOS Capy not have enough games to make physical on animals to find an enthusiastic audience in the App Store. S:. S & S EP

is the biggest game of the year, at least for me, for this reason and many others

4. Indian trade will

Some of my favorite games designers have finally started to throw complete games business to the public. I sincerely hope (and in some cases, we know) that we have not seen the last of Zach Gage ( SpellTower ) and Stephen Lavelle (

Tune

English Country ) in particular.

Johann Sebastian Joust

Johann Sebastian
Joust

not even really yet, but I think it's pretty obvious happened this year. Games and traditional games are a much larger proportion of the indie gaming scene this year, and

FAIR

is basically the people solely responsible for the game (with a shout Ninja, of course).

Rayman Origins

platforms, and I fell hard for this. He has an incredible music, tons of shit and personality is incredibly fun to play.

Bastion

made by boys and girls cool forming the small team in the Super-G Games Bastion

is an excellent example of using history, environment, and the story in a game. The soundtrack is also great Darren Korb, and narration Logan Cunningham is on site.

3. PAX

PAX. It is the only time they can interact with the fans, and although it still feels very strange to say that we have fans, it's great to meet everyone who stops at the booth at PAX for talk about the games. It's very rewarding to talk to people who have played the game and get their feedback. On weekends, although very tired, it's a very edifying. I always come back to work after PAX fully charged and ready to do more things for people to play.

Deep Sea

Deep Sea is a game I played in an audio-only games the Rangers monthly meet-ups here in Austin. You use a gas mask completely black to the eye and breathing monitors. You need to find the monsters in the dark green of its guttural voice signals and blind fire his gun at them. It is incredibly intense. Did I mention that if your breath, you can not hear the monsters? Yes, intense.

Portal 2

I am gathering is strictly by two small audio details that I liked. I love playing the synth arpeggios sliding on the gel to increase speed. And there is a puzzle involving laser beams, cubes of reflection, music and a little adjustment that really impressed me. In addition, Stephen Merchant did a great job as Wheatly.

[In no particular order.]

Saints Row: The Third
